• Psychology education

The psychologist education follows the format of 3 years BA followed by 2 years MA. Programmes that meet EuroPsy requirements

• Supervised practice arrangements (for the EuroPsy Certificate)

According to the 2017 revision of the Professional Internship Regulations published in 2010, that follow the 2015 review of the Law approved in 2008, all new members of OPP undergo a 12-month -internship that consist in supervised practice. That year of supervised practice comprehend an evaluation by the Internship Commission (CE) composed of 7 members that attest and asses the entire year of supervised practice following the EuroPsy's model of competences. The year of supervised practice includes the frequency of a course with modules "Professional identity and Development", "Professional Ethic and Deontology", "Professional Projects and Entrepreneurship" and "Psychological First Aid".

Training is arranged by the national psychologists association (the OPP)

• Recognition of the title psychologist

'Psychologist' is a legally recognized and protected title. The title of psychologist, its use and professional practise, in any activity sector, requires registration with the Ordem dos Psicólogos as a full member. (Article 1 of the Statute of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses, approved by Law No. 57/2008, of the 4th September, with the changes of Law No. 138/2015, of 7th September).
OPP is the competent authority for the regulation of the profession of psychologist, to ensure the title protection and to be the competent authority in the European Directive 2005/36 / EC - recognition of professional qualifications. See the regulated professions data – regulated profession.
For access to profession of psychologist one must comply with legal requirements for academic training. Currently, psychology exercise without being admitted to the OPP can be criminally charged as usurping the title. 
In 2016 the General Regulation of Specialties of OPP was approved, combined broad expertise and advanced specialization areas. There are three specialties of psychology: 

-    Clinical and Health Psychology 
-    Educational Psychology 
-    Work, Social and Organizational Psychology. 

These areas correspond to contexts where a significant number of psychologists exercise as a main activity. The organization into the three main areas allows the mobility between them and facilitates a professional transition between areas. There are few psychologists working exclusively in one specific context during their career.

License is mandatory by law for practising psychology

• Continuing professional development (CPD)

Continuous training courses, scientific and professional events and supervision are made available and/or recognized through National Psychologists Association's (the OPP) accreditation system to members.
