Psychotherapy requirements Finland

The Finnish state decree on health care professionals § 2 includes regulations on psychotherapy training which leads to the right to use the title “psychotherapist” granted by the Finnish state. From the beginning of the year 2012 only training programmes arranged by or together with the universities will be accepted.

-        The regulations include two levels of training:

1) special level (psychotherapist) and

2) advanced special level (psychotherapy trainer).

The higher level requirements are equivalent and in terms of education and training hours partly a bit higher than the EFPA requirements for psychologists specialising in psychotherapy. Therefore, this level of training will be required in Finland for the EuroPsy Specialist Certification.
