  • Psychology Education

Psychology education is organised through a degree in psychology of 240 ECTS, designed under the clear directives of the Spanish Conference of the Deans of Psychology Schools. These meet the requirements of the EuroPsy. There is a range of Masters degrees, some 60 ECTS, some 90 ECTS, and some 120 ECTS. In order to meet the EuroPsy requirements, an individual requires a grade in psychology and a master’s degree with a main focus in psychology.

Recognition of university education programmes as meeting EuroPsy requirements is undertaken under the auspices of the National Awarding Committee (NAC).

  • Supervised practice arrangements (for the EuroPsy Certificate)

Applicants for the EuroPsy have to show that they have completed a full year of supervised practice under the guidance of a professional already in possession of a EuroPsy Certificate.

  • Arrangements for training of supervisors

There are national arrangements for the training of supervisors. The main task for the COP will be to introduce systematically the EuroPsy competence model for supervised practice. A training workshop has been developed and roll-out to national level is planned through 2017. The NAC also evaluates the experience of supervisors who evaluate applicants, and checks the professional relationship between the applicant and supervisor, the duration of this relationship and the frequency of supervision sessions.

Most supervisors meet Level 5 or higher criteria.

  • Arrangements for training of supervisors

Training of supervisors is mainly arranged by the national psychologists association (COP). For clinical and health psychologists there are various arrangements; these are governed by the federal law, the Psychologist Act of 2013.

Most psychologist supervisors for clinical and health psychologists meet the EuroPsy level 1 criteria; most psychologist supervisors for work and organisational psychologist meet EuroPsy level 4 criteria or higher.

  • Recognition of title

“Psychologist” is a legally recognised and protected title for some areas of practice.

  • License to practice

License or entry in the Register is required to practise psychology.

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

There is no mandatory requirement for CPD. However the Spanish Psychological Association (COP) provides a wide offering of training opportunities for professional psychologists. These include a variety of seminars, conferences, congresses and courses each year aimed at members who wish to improve their skills in different areas of psychology. There is a broad programme with structured and certified courses called FOCAD.

There are no revalidation requirements.
